The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) says Israeli soldiers “kidnapped” over 1,000 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in October.

The Palestinian body, which represents detainees and their families, said on Sunday that most of the arrests took place in the city of al-Khalil (Hebron), located in the occupied East al-Quds Jerusalem.

They were mostly transferred to prisons, the PPS said, adding that the arrests were made after the Israeli extremists and soldiers intensified their attacks on Palestinian territories.

Over three hundred of those put behind bars this month are minors, the PPS said.

Qadoura Fares, the head of the PPS, said that, “The Israeli soldiers have lately focused their attention on the protesting Palestinians in both al-Khalil and Jerusalem, al-Quds which are hosting the settlers. We think that even if the uprising comes down, Israel’s arrest campaign will continue as it is part of Israel’s policy towards the Palestinians.”

The latest wave of Israeli-Palestinian clashes began when Tel Aviv restricted the entry of some Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque on August 26.

The surge in tensions, further escalated by Israeli settlers’ violence, have led to the death of some 54 Palestinians since October 1. Eight Israelis have also died in the same time period.

More than 7,000 Palestinians are reportedly behind bars in 17 Israeli prisons and detention centers, many of them without charge or trial.
