Senior MP: World Astonished by Iran’s Power in Controlling Strait of Hormoz

A senior Iranian legislator lauded the Iranian forces for their recent naval wargames, codenamed Velayat 90, in international waters in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean, and said the maneuvers showed the country’s power in controlling the Strait of Hormoz.
“The world is surprised by Iran’s power in controlling the Strait of Hormoz and safeguarding the water borders,” member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Tuesday.
He underlined the importance of the 10-day naval warships in the Southern waters of Iran, and said, “The West understood in the last 10 days that Iran is capable of controlling the Strait of Hormoz and affecting the fate of one third of the westerners’ needed oil.”
Naqavi Hosseini also stressed that Iran’s 10-day drills produced such deep effects that they could push up oil to higher prices in recent days.
The United States and a number of its allies have long stressed that military action is a main option for the White House to deter Iran’s progress in the field of nuclear technology.
Iran has warned that in case of an attack by either the US or israel, it will target 32 American bases in the Middle East and close the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
An estimated 40 percent of the world’s oil supply passes through the waterway.
