Two US soldiers killed in Iraq

Just a week after the end of the US combat mission in Iraq, two American soldiers have been killed in northern Iraq, says a US army spokesman.

“There was an incident that resulted in casualties to US forces,” Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Allen told AFP on Tuesday.

The spokesman did not give further details about the incident.

Nearly 50,000 US troops are currently stationed in Iraq, supposedly on training and advisory roles until a 2011 complete pull out.

The United States invaded Iraq in 2003 under the pretext of destroying alleged weapons of mass destruction. However, no such weapons were ever found.

Nearly a trillion dollars have been spent on the US-led invasion of Iraq that has also left more than 4,400 US soldiers and countless number of Iraqi civilians killed since it began.
