Lebanese and Armenian Presidents Emphasize Political Solution Based on Dialogue for Syrian Crisis

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Monday emphasized the importance of a political solution based on dialogue for resolving the Syrian crisis, stressing rejection of foreign interference.

In a joint press conference, Sleiman said that the two sides stressed the need for finding an integrated and swift solution to the crisis in Syria on the basis of dialogue, thus allowing Syrians to achieve the reforms and democracy they want on their own.

He also affirmed rejection of foreign military intervention, and that the political solution must be removed from violence, fragmentation and extremism.

In turn, Sargsyan voiced the Armenian people’s concern over the Syrian people, saying that they feel the pain of the Syrian people and that Armenia has always opposed bloodshed and violence, adding that a permanent solution cannot be reached without ending conflicts by all sides and holding broad political dialogue.

He also voiced his country’s support for the mission of UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Ibrahimi, hoping that peace will reign in Syria, which would allow necessary democratic reforms to be implemented in the near future.
