Sixth US destroyer in Mediterranean

A sixth US destroyer is operating in the eastern Mediterranean as zionist US President Barack Obama says Washington is preparing for a “narrow” military action against Syria.

Pentagon officials announced on Friday that the USS San Antonio, an amphibious US warship with hundreds of US Marines on board, has joined five US destroyers armed with cruise missiles in the eastern Mediterranean.

The sixth US warship received orders to remain in the eastern Mediterranean after it passed through the Suez Canal on Thursday from the Red Sea, Reuters reported.

The San Antonio and two other US warships are carrying 2,200 Marines who have been touring the region around the Arabian Peninsula for six months.

Washington’s beefed-up military presence in the eastern Mediterranean comes as US officials are mulling over plans for a military action against Syria.

On Friday, US Secretary of State John Kerry repeated Washington’s allegations of chemical weapons use by Damascus saying the US “intelligence community has high confidence” that the Syrian government is responsible for a chemical attack near the country’s capital.

Shortly afterwards, Obama said Washington would seek a “limited and narrow” military action against Syria not “any kind of military action that would involve boots on the ground.”

The Syrian government has categorically rejected the allegations that it had any role in the chemical attack.

On Thursday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Damascus would defend itself against any aggression and threats would only increase Syria’s “commitment to its principles and its independence.”

Meanwhile, a number of US military officers, ranging from captains to a four-star general, have expressed serious concerns over the wisdom and the consequences of a possible US military action against Syria.
