Tension rises as Papua New Guinea starts to dismantle migrant camp

Protesters have rallied in Sydney, calling on the Australian government to take responsibility for some 600 refugees in a refugee detention center on Papua New Guinea, and to guarantee their safety.

PNG has shut the refugee camp, however, the asylum seekers refused to leave. The asylum seekers say they fear for their safety amid threats of violence by locals. Australia intercepts and holds refugees arriving by boat in camps on Papua New Guinea, defying calls against the violation of human rights.
