Protesters heckle London mayor

London mayor Boris Johnson has been heckled during a visit to Bristol by a group of protesters who tried to disrupt his interviews by verbal attacks.

While Johnson was visiting the city in support of Conservative candidates running for local mayoral and Police Crime Commissioner elections next month, a groups of protesters jeered “Tory scum” and “pleb”.

“Pleb”, which is a pejorative term for the working class, has recently raised controversy in Britain, damaging the Conservative-led coalition government often characterized as lacking empathy with the poor.

Government chief whip Andrew Mitchell was forced to resign on October 19 after a police officer said he had called him a “pleb”.

The use of the pejorative term raised huge controversy especially because of the public anger about the Conservatives’ austerity measures that have seen the public services and welfare programs cut by billions of pounds.

The spending cuts have become especially problematic for the working class and ordinary people.
