Spokesperson: Iran Affirms Respect for Choice of Syrian People
In a statement emphasizing the sovereignty of the Syrian people, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei advocated for initiatives aimed at thwarting any transformation of Syria into a stronghold for terrorist activities. He underscored the importance of allowing Syria to chart its own course without external intervention.
In response to inquiries concerning Abu Mohammad al-Julani’s recent interview and remarks about Iran, Baqaei addressed the media during a Monday press briefing, reaffirming that Iran’s position on Syria remains unequivocal.
He stated, “We honor the choice made by the Syrian people. Safeguarding Syria’s territorial integrity holds significant importance for us and the entire region.”
A spokesperson announced that Iran has raised its concerns regarding the situation in Syria during discussions with multiple nations.
He emphasized that Syria must independently determine its future, free from the influence of foreign entities, and warned against the nation becoming a breeding ground for terrorism.
In alignment with recent remarks by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi regarding Syria, a spokesperson has asserted that the stabilization of Syria would positively impact the broader region.
In a statement shared on his X account on December 27, Araqchi criticized the Arab League for its allegations against Tehran over its alleged efforts to incite discord in Syria. He reiterated the Islamic Republic’s commitment to supporting a peaceful transition of power and the establishment of an inclusive government in Syria.
