String of attacks leave 28 dead in Iraq

At least 28 people have been killed and many others have been injured in separate attacks in Iraq.
According to AFP, security and medical sources said the deadliest attack, which took place in a commercial street in a northwestern neighborhood of Baghdad on Wednesday, killed 16 people and injured 42 others.
Many of those killed were at a wedding party that was passing by as the explosion occurred.
Two bomb blasts in a commercial area in the western Baghdad killed 9 people and wounded 15 others, while in the city of Abu Ghraib, west of the capital, an army brigadier general was shot dead at his home.
In Baquba, located some 50 kilometers north of the capital, two roadside bombs exploded near a football pitch, killing one person and wounding nine others.
Gunmen also killed a militia leader near the northern city of Kirkuk, and a roadside bomb north of the city of Tikrit targeted the governor of Salaheddin province’s convoy, injuring four of his guards.
Violence has killed over 570 people in Iraq so far in May.
