Muslims’ Leader Ayat. Khamenei attended on Sunday the memorial service at Imam Khomeini Hosseinieh to commemorate and honor the life and memory of Iranian Hajj pilgrims who died in Saudi Arabia.

The memorial service was attended by  Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, a number of bereaved families of the deceased, heads of three branches of government, religious figures, other government officials and people from various walks of life.

Earlier on Sunday, a large crowd of people attended the funeral ceremonies across the country as bodies of 218 Iranian victims were so far returned to the country by two separate flights.

The human crush of September 24 in Mina, Saudi Arabia, during the Hajj pilgrimage rituals, claimed lives of about 4,700 people, including 464 Iranians, according to Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

Iran’s Leader on Wednesday delivered harsh criticism to Saudi authorities for “using advanced military equipment” in bombarding Yemeni people, yet failing “to act when humanity demands it and show their courage only when facing the defenseless people.”

He also said Saudi Arabia has not made good on its obligations regarding the deadly Hajj incident, adding Iran’s possible response to Saudi misconduct and disrespect toward Iranian pilgrms and victims will be “firm and severe.”

Saudi Arabia has come under harsh criticism over its role and handling of this tragic incident. Countries suffering more losses in the stampede blame Saudi Arabia’s incompetence in handling the safety at the rituals to be cause of the deadly incident.
