Syria and Iran sign framework agreement on transporting gas

Syrian Petroleum Minister Sleiman al-Abbas discussed on Sunday with Iranian counterpart Rustom Kasimi the implementation of agreements between the two countries in the field of petroleum and gas.

The meeting, which was attended by Governor of Central Bank of Syria Adib Mayyaleh and Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mahmoud, discussed importing petroleum and gas from Iran via a credit line, and means to overcome economic sanctions and the war waged on the Syrian people.

The Iranian side affirmed readiness to support Syria and provide its petroleum needs, stressing that the escalation of the economic war will not undermine the Syrian people’s determination to combat terrorism.

For his part, al-Abbas said that the Syrian-Iranian agreements will have positive effects on the living conditions of the Syrian people.

On the sideline of the meeting, the two sides signed a framework agreement on transporting Iranian gas to Syria via Iraq.

In the same context, Secretary General of the Syrian Prime Ministry Taisir al-Zoubi held talks on commerce and economy with Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mehdi Qazanfari to follow up on agreements to secure food and consumer products.

They also discussed implementing the USD 1 billion credit line to provide Syria’s needs of electricity, medical supplies and food.

The two sides stressed the need to continue cooperation and develop it to help the Syrian people remain steadfast during the current crisis, with al-Zoubi asserting that the Syrians are capable of overcoming conspiracies and emerging victorious, stressing the need to provide supplies quickly to reduce the burdens of the Syrian people.

Talks were also held between CBS Governor Mayyaleh and officials from the Central Bank of Iran to discuss the implementation of the credit line.
