Syria ultimate winner against terrorism: Rouhani

President Rouhani, stressing that Iran will always stand by Syria in combating terrorism, has said that the final victory belongs to Syrian people.
During the meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, Iran’s president said, “it is known to everyone today that some countries’ support for terrorism has been wrong and futile, and their assistance has only led to the spread of violence and insecurity in the region.”

While noting that those armed forces in Syria are not the opposition but terrorists, he added, “even those who have been responsible for the formation of these terrorist groups and aided them are now gradually retreating from them.”

Rouhani also asserted that the region and the world have now come to realize that the Syrian government and military are capable of combating terrorists and protecting their country.

“We are certain that the Syrian people will ultimately triumph,” said Rouhani, noting that Iran will always support Syria in fighting terrorism.

Walid Muallem, for his part, expressed his country’s gratitude for all the support they have been receiving from Iran and stated that Tehran and Damascus are on the same side.

Muallem pointed to Israel’s recent airstrike against Syria and said, “what the Zionist regime and its allies seek to achieve through these attacks is the destruction of our economic infrastructure and delivering a blow to Syrian people.”

He also criticized the US and other countries for being complicit in supporting the terrorist groups in Syria.
