Syrian Army Inches Closer to ISIL’s Key Base in Eastern Deir Ezzur

 

 Government troops in Syria continued the march towards the key city of al-Mayadeen in Southeastern Deir Ezzur and captured new areas on Thursday.

The army forces engaged in clashes with the ISIL on Deir Ezzur-al-Mayadeen road in Southeastern Deir Ezzur on Thursday, advancing nearly 1km towards the town of Baqras Foqani.

The army’s artillery and missile units also heavily pounded the ISIL positions in al-Mayadeen, destroying an arms depot, a command center and several military vehicles.

Also, in the Western parts of Deir Ezzur, other Syrian soldiers killed a number of ISIL terrorists in Shoula-Haribsheh pivot after heavy clashes.

In a relevant development on Wednesday, the Syrian army forces continued to hit ISIL’s defense lines and managed to record significant advances towards the town of al-Mayadeen, the main bastion of the terrorist group in the Southeastern part of the province.

Field sources said that the army men, backed up by the army’s artillery units and aircraft, continued to clash with ISIL in several flanks in Southeastern Deir Ezzur towards the town of Mouhassan.

Also, warplanes pounded ISIL’s movements and positions in the towns and villages of Buqras Fowqani, al-Mayadeen, Jadid, Akidat and Bu Leil, killing a number of terrorists and destroying their equipment, the sources added.

In the meantime, another field source reported that the army units advanced along the Deir Ezzur-al-Mayadeen road, capturing several more positions.

The source further said that the army forces repelled large-scale attacks of ISIL’s suicide vehicles in Bu Leil region near Mouhassan.
