Syrian army kills insurgents near capital

Syrian forces have killed dozens of insurgents during an operation near the capital where the army retook control of several areas previously held by insurgents groups.

According to IRIB, the Syrian army recaptured the suburbs of Kafreen, Haran al-Awamid, al-Ataibeh and Adra during the operation on Saturday. Syrian forces also surrounded the eastern neighborhood of al-Ghouta in Damascus.
Reports say the Syrian army also foiled an overnight attempt by the insurgents to infiltrate Damascus from the suburb of Jobar.
Syrian forces continue with mop-up operations against the foreign-backed insurgents across the country.
Many people, including large numbers of Syrian security forces, have been killed since turmoil erupted in Syria more than two years ago.
The Syrian government says the chaos in the country is being orchestrated from outside.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad recently said that Turkey’s government “officially harbors terrorists and sends them into Syria.”
