Syrian Army makes another big push to split East Ghouta

For the third time this week, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has launched a big assault to split the East Ghouta region into two pockets.

Led by their Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army began today’s attack by storming the eastern axis of Mesraba; this would result in a fierce battle with the Islamist rebels defending the town.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Army is still attempting to capture the 1km of territory located east of the vehicle management base; however, they have yet to infiltrate the Islamist defenses.

The purpose of this attack has more to do with securing the vehicle management base than splitting the East Ghouta into two pockets; this is because the aforementioned military installation has been nearly besieged for most of this year.

In addition to lifting the partial siege on the vehicle management base, this attack is also meant to open up the eastern perimeter of the Harasta suburb, which has long been a stronghold for the Islamist rebels.
