Syrian Army progresses along 4 axes near Marj Al-Sultan Airport
One month after seizing the imperative Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade and their 416th Regiment of the Republican Guard have advanced across several farms that were formerly under the control of Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group).
On Saturday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – entered the small village of Hawash Al-Kharabo after a series of clashes with Jaysh Al-Islam that resulted in the pro-government forces seized the eastern poultry farms.
As of Saturday, the Syrian Armed Forces are now advancing along 4 axes surrounding the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport; this marks the first time since government forces lost the aforementioned airbase (mid-2012) that they have entered these parts of the East Ghouta.
According to a senior officer from the Syrian Arab Army in Damascus City, the Syrian Armed Forces are advancing at Al-Bilaliyah (east of Marj Al-Sultan), Al-Nashabiyah (northeast of Marj Al-Sultan), Hawash Al-Kharabo (northwest of Marj Al-Sultan), and Qantara (west of Marj Al-Sultan); these villages make up the 4 axes the Syrian Arab Army is advancing at near the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport.
