Hezbollah: Israel, US threats hollow

The Hezbollah secretary general describes the US and Israeli allegations that Syria is transferring Scud missiles to the resistance movement as “mere threats.”

“The Israeli and US remarks about transferring Scud missiles to Hezbollah aim at pressuring the Hezbollah resistance forces, the defying nations and at waging an intimidation campaign — nothing more,” Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said in a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani in Lebanon on Saturday.

Nasrallah also ruled out the possibility of another war in the region, saying there is no political objective to be achieved through war. He also announced that his movement has the right to possess any kind of weapons.

Sheikh Hamad and Nasrallah also discussed the latest domestic and regional developments, and “Arab responsibilities” towards the Palestinian cause.

The resistance movement has already rejected allegations that Syria supplies Hezbollah with long-range Scud missiles. Lebanese and Syrian officials say Israel is using the claim as a pretext to launch another war against Lebanon.

In 2006, Israel invaded Lebanon but was met with resistance from Hezbollah fighters and was forced to withdraw after 33 days without achievement any of its objectives.

About 1,200 Lebanese, mostly civilians, were killed during the war, which brought about humiliation for Israel.
