Syrian Army Restores Security to Damascus-Daraa Highway

ArmyThe Syrian army restored security to the international Damascus-Daraa highway by pushing back the militants from surrounding areas.

The militants stationed in Al-Qadam town in Damascus counSyria Armytryside attacked the Damascus-Daraa highway again, but they faced counterattacks by the Syrian army.

The army units brought three buildings in Al-Qadam region under their control concurrent with launching fresh attacks on the militants.

Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army targeted and destroyed several gathering centers of the militants in Yalda parks near Al-Qasemieh town and Al-Saqa and Yabroud farms.

Meantime, Al-Mayadin TV announced President Bashar al-Assad the personality of the year 2013 according to a poll run on its website and lasted for three weeks on 16 Arab and international personalities.

Al-Mayadin said that President al-Assad won 193,404 votes with a percentage of 37.97 % of the total votes who exceeded 500,000.

Elsewhere, the army units repelled the militants’ attack on Roshdiya region in Deir Ezzur in Eastern Syria and targeted two terrorist groups of Jafar Al-Tayyar and Saqr Qoreish near Al-Siyaseh bridge in Deir Ezzur.

Also, the Syrian army advanced into Al-Zareh town in Homs countryside in Western Syria in a bid to regain full control of the town.

Meantime, a total of 50 militants surrendered themselves to the Syrian army in Damascus countryside.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs and terrorists against both the army and civilians.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
