‘BBC is an echo chamber for UK govt.’

The British Labour Party has accused the state-funded British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) of being an “echo chamber” for the coalition government.

Voicing their anger at the BBC’s discriminatory news coverage, the members of the Labour party have made a “serious complaint” to the corporation saying Labour spokespersons’ share of BBC’s airtime is less than half of that allotted to the ruling Tories and Liberal Democrats.

The members of the opposition party claimed that the BBC’s news coverage is so biased that it blocks the Labour from conveying the views and messages they desire the public to get.

The Labour Party’s complaint comes as the results of a recent poll revealed that the ruling Conservatives have outperformed the opposition Labour for the first time after 14 months.

The Independent revealed that the recent poll puts the Conservatives on 39 percent (up four points), with the Labour one point down on 38% and the Liberal Democrats unchanged on 12%.

The Labour party also hit out at the country’s newspapers, especially the pro-government papers linked to Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, accusing them of biased coverage when it comes to reporting the results of the opinion polls.

Nevertheless, the BBC has strongly denied the allegations saying “Our news coverage is impartial and features a range of voices.”

The corporation’s claims come as the results of an analysis carried out by the Labour party confirm the biased nature of BBC’s news coverage.

The Labour officials have categorically announced that their complaint does not mean that the party has declared “war” on the corporation. Nevertheless, it is just meant to remind BBC of its responsibilities and obligations.
