Speaking during a meeting on Sunday with the Iranian ambassador in Damascus Mohammad Reza Shibani, al-Halqi underscored a genuine mutual desire to broaden the scope of bilateral relations to cover wider fields in a way that meets the aspirations of peoples in the two countries.

Al-Halqi hailed Iran’s support to Syria, especially in terms of consolidating the Syrian economy in the face of the economic warfare against the Syrian people, reiterating confidence in Syria’s victory over terrorism and its sponsors.

Talks during the meeting focused on means to bolster economic, trade and development cooperation and activate the Iranian credit line to Syria to provide oil products, food stuffs and medical equipment, not to mention the issues listed on the agenda of the Syrian-Iranian technical committee to be held in Tehran soon.

Premier al-Halqi said that preparations are underway to open grand shopping malls in Damascus and the governorates that provide foodstuffs and clothes before Eid al-Fitr.

Al-Halqi said the government intends to open retail outlets in ministries and state institutions, adding that the government has a plan to provide the market with foodstuffs, especially chicken, butter, oil, sugar, rice and all the items that citizens need as to end monopoly over commodities.

The ambassador expressed Iran’s desire to boost cooperation with Syria in all fields, lauding the achievements of the Syrian army in facing the unfair economic war and the Syrians’ resolve to rebuild their country without foreign interference.
