People in Syria have flatly rejected Takfiri ISIL militants, saying the militants do not represent their interests, a new survey shows.

On Wednesday, Opinion Research Business (ORB), a British polling group, released the findings of the survey, indicating that only 4 percent of the Syrian people believe the ISIL cult represents their interests.

“This (research) is a unique insight into public opinion in Syria… They don’t believe the extremist groups best represent their views,” ORB Managing Director Johnny Heald said.

To conduct the research, local Syrian teams interviewed 1,014 adults in 12 of Syria’s 14 provinces in May.

The ISIL militants have forced over 150,000 residents in the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor to leave their homes. Reports said the large displacement has left thousands sleeping in the open, facing food and water shortages.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. According to reports, the West and its regional allies, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, are giving financial and military support to the militants.
