Syria’s ambassador to the UN has slammed supporters of the ISIL Takfiri group, saying Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar are the main supporters of terrorism in the region.

Bashar al-Ja’afari also said during a UN Security Council meeting on Friday that any action against the terrorists must comply with the principles of international law.

The Syrian official added that the government in Damascus has been actively involved in the battle against terrorism for the past three years.

More than 191,000 people have been killed in over three years of conflict in Syria, according to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The UN agency says the fatalities figure is a probable “underestimate of the real total number of people killed.”

Ja’afari said the Syrian government is coordinating with the Iraqi government in the battle.

“The war in Syria and Iraq against terrorism is a single war against the same enemy. The victims of both countries are the victims of one terrorism — a heinous one,” the Syrian envoy said.

The Takfiri ISIL militants have seized large swathes of Iraq and Syria. They have carried out heinous crimes in the two countries including mass execution of people.

The ISIL Takfiri militants managed to seize dozens of villages on Friday by launching a lightning advance in Syria’s Kurdish region, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.

The United States claims it is assembling “a broad and international coalition” to fight ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. Damascus, however, says any action against ISIL in Syria needs permission from the Syrian government.
