Hezbollah Leader Sayyed Nasrallah hails Assad win in Syria pres. election

365840_Hassan- NasrallahSecretary General of Hezbollah resistance movement has hailed the huge turnout in Syria’s presidential vote as a victory for the country’s leadership and Syrians.

Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said Syrian President Bashar Assad’s re-election proves that any solution to the country’s conflict “begins and ends” with President Assad.

He made the remarks during a televised address to his supporters at a function in southern Beirut on Friday.

Nasrallah said despite massive efforts and threats by the US, Western countries and the opposition, millions of Syrians showed up at the polls and voted for Assad, adding that the high voter turnout shows the will of a nation that is determined to decide its own future.

The Hezbollah leader also criticized some countries that prevented the Syrian expats from voting.

He said the huge voter turnout has caused a sense of disappointment for the US and its allies as they had expected the vote to be boycotted.

Touching upon the failed war in Syria, Nasrallah said the election displayed unity among Syrians despite the will of all those who wanted to break up the country.

The remarks come after Assad won nearly 90 percent of the votes cast in Syria’s presidential race. Syria’s Supreme Constitutional Court also announced that over 73 percent of the 15.8 million eligible voters had taken part in the election.

Following the announcement, crowds took to the streets throughout the country to celebrate the landslide victory of Assad.

Delegations from different countries, including Iran, Russia, the Philippines, Bolivia, Venezuela, Tajikistan, Zimbabwe and Uganda, monitored the presidential election in Syria.
