Talks aimed at reviving Obama image

Negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli leaders only aim to polish up US President Barack Obama and Democrats’ image, and are a nonstarter when it comes to settling Palestinian issues.

The US-brokered ‘compromise’ talks between Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are only aimed at improving Obama and other Democrats’ profile, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Ala’edding Boroujerdi was quoted by IRNA as saying on Sunday.

“Such talks have no role in resolving the problems facing Palestine and the Middle East,” he said.

“The most important reason why the negotiations are being held is America’s domestic issues. Democrats want to influence the upcoming elections of the US Congress,” the top parliamentarian underlined.

“Because Obama has not fulfilled its election pledges over the past two years, and his approval ratings have nosedived in opinion polls, Democrats are seeking different approaches to redress the situation in the US domestic politics,” Boroujerdi underlined.

To that end, he said, their first step was to push for anti-Iran UN Security Council Resolution 1929.

As a second move, the top MP said, they have staged a show where they pretend to be trying to settle the Middle East crisis through ‘compromise’ talks.

Experience shows holding talks won’t help resolve the question of Palestine and the Middle East problems, and ‘will only add another link to Washington’s chain of failures on the Palestinian issue,’ the top MP said.
