Four Syrian civilians have been killed and over a dozen injured in Idlib after foreign-backed militants carried out a mortar attack in the northwestern city.

The mortar shells fired by the militants on Friday targeted a school, a mosque and a building.

The attack came after the Syrian armed forces foiled the infiltration of the militants into the heart of Idlib.

In a separate incident, militants from the al-Qaeda linked al-Nusrah Front targeted a civilian car in the suburbs of Idlib, killing three people.

The Takfiri terrorists also ran over a child, who is said to be in critical condition.

Meanwhile, two militant commanders were killed in clashes with army forces in a Damascus suburb.

A number of non-Syrian al-Nusrah Front militants were also killed in an army operation near the western city of Latakia.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies – namely Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

A British defense study published last September said that about 100,000 militants, fragmented into 1,000 groups, are fighting in Syria against the government and people.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in the foreign-backed militancy.
