The health services at the Imam Reza Shrine provide assistance to thousands of pilgrims
According to the director of the medical institute at the Imam Reza (AS) shrine, more than 107,000 healthcare services have been administered to non-Iranian pilgrims at Dar al-Shifa in the first seven months of 2024.

According to Soltanifar, a total of 62,711 non-Iranian pilgrims from 30 different countries received extended services at Dar al-Shifa, located near the Imam Reza shrine in northeastern Iran. He underscored the facility’s commitment to providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to all visitors. “The majority of medical assistance provided involved clinical consultations, laboratory tests, injections, and emergency care,” Soltanifar stated. He pointed out that a significant portion of the pilgrims seeking medical services hailed from countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, with Iraqi individuals comprising 71% of those treated.
The Imam Reza shrine extends complimentary emergency services to both visitors and local residents, in collaboration with Montaseriyeh Hospital, the largest endowment-backed medical facility in Iran. This hospital caters to patients of all nationalities, providing essential healthcare services. Following its reopening in 2010, Montaseriyeh Hospital has carried out more than 6,000 organ transplant procedures, also accommodating international patients, as reported by its Director, Mohsen Ali Akbarian. “Thanks to the backing of the Imam Reza shrine, the hospital has successfully resumed operations, offering a full array of healthcare services,” stated Akbarian.
Since 2021, the hospital’s Health Tourism Department has been instrumental in arranging transplant procedures for patients hailing from a diverse array of nations, including Lebanon and Iraq.
Razavi Hospital, a healthcare facility affiliated with the Imam Reza shrine, employs approximately 500 nurses committed to delivering exceptional patient care. According to Saeed Moushekaf, the hospital’s deputy chief of nursing, the nursing staff upholds high standards of ethics and care, mirroring the values of the revered shrine. Nurse Sara Farrokhrad characterized her role as profoundly rewarding, as she tends to patients seeking healing. Her colleague, Nurse Hossein Aghebatinia, echoed her sentiments, attributing his dedication to the inspirational influence of Imam Reza.
Razavi Hospital has established a specialized infertility treatment center as part of the shrine custodians’ efforts to promote family expansion, providing state-of-the-art services to both Iranian and international couples. Furthermore, the Dar al-Shifa emergency center delivers 24/7 diagnostic and medical care for visiting pilgrims.
As part of its “Thursdays of Health” initiative, Razavi Hospital has provided approximately 9,000 free medical services to underprivileged regions within the Razavi Khorasan province over the last eight months. This outreach effort has extended to numerous villages, encompassing health screenings, counseling sessions, and the distribution of complimentary eyeglasses aimed at addressing vision impairments.
Mohsen Mehvar, the Director of Razavi Hospital, has announced that the institution has delivered complimentary healthcare services worth an estimated 680 billion Rials to disadvantaged regions in the past three and a half years.
Monthly camps are organized with specialized teams from diverse fields to meet the healthcare needs in these regions. Mehvar announced that Razavi Hospital also provides medical supplies to underserved areas, as directed by shrine authorities, advancing its mission of community healthcare support.
