Millions of people, including school and university students, in different cities across the country participated in massive rallies, chanting “Down with the US” and “Down with Israel” slogans to show their strong condemnation of Washington’s policies against Iran.

The Iranian people from all walks of life, including school and university students, took to the streets to mark the anniversary of the US embassy takeover in 1979 and commemorate the National Day of Campaign against Global Arrogance and the National Student Day in massive rallies on Thursday.

Participants in the annual rally in front of the former US embassy in Tehran known by the Iranians as ‘the den of spies’ carried placards deploring the US hegemonic policies in the world, and vowed to follow the path of late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini, and renewed allegiance to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

They also blasted the US for non-commitment to its undertakings based on the last year nuclear deal with Iran, and called on the Iranian officials, specially the nuclear negotiators and foreign ministry, to keep vigilant against Washington’s deception.

At the end of their rallies, the participants also issued a resolution which described the US as the number one enemy of men all across the world, stressing that based on the remarks by Supreme Leader “no one is allowed to stretch the hand of friendship to the US”.

They also underlined the US pivotal role in crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people and by Saudi Arabia as main supporter of terrorist groups and the ISIL and Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra) Front terrorists in the regional countries, and condemned any measure in compromise with Washington.

The rallies were held one day after Ayatollah Khamenei rejected certain remarks that negotiations and compromise with Washington would resolve problems, and said the “liar, disloyal and cheater” US is itself a crisis-hit country.

“Negotiations with the US will not resolve our problems, because firstly, they are liar, disloyal and cheater and stab in the back, and secondly, the US, itself, is crisis-stricken and how can a crisis-hit country resolve another country’s problems,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in Tehran on Wednesday, addressing a large gathering of Iranian school students and teachers on the occasion of Students Day in Iran.

Stressing that international assessment centers and even the Americans, themselves, have admitted the political, economic, international and moral crises in the US, he said that Washington whose debts have approached its GDP cannot settle the problems in Iran and it is merely after looting Iran’s wealth and resources to rescue itself from the crisis.

Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the US political and international problems, and said, “Today, in any part of the world when a nation stands up against a tyrant government, its first slogan is ‘Death to the US’. Is there any crisis worse than this? Now the Americans are in a situation that they have become desperate about the developments in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and North Africa. Isn’t this situation a crisis?”

He pointed to the moral crisis in the US which was blatantly revealed by the US presidential candidates recently, and said, “This is enough to destroy the US reputation.”

Stressing that talks with the US only add to Iran’s problems, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “We should resolve the problems ourselves and with reliance on our capabilities and the young forces inside the country.”

Since the 1979 takeover of the US embassy in Tehran, Iranians have been celebrating the occasion every year by holding rallies on the anniversary and marking it as the National Day against the ‘Global Arrogance’.

November 4 marks three important events in Iranian history: the takeover of the former US embassy in Tehran by Muslim students following the Imam’s line in 1979 and the exile of Imam Khomeini by the Shah in 1964. It also marks the massacre of a large number of Iranian school students by the army of the former Pahlavi regime during the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iranian university students took over the US embassy building to thwart what they called Washington’s plots against the Islamic Revolution.

Inside the embassy, the students found shredded documents which proved their convictions.
