Thousands rally across Morocco in protest against Israeli genocide in Gaza

In response to an appeal from civil society organizations, thousands of Moroccan citizens took to the streets in various cities on Friday. The demonstrations aimed to protest against genocide, denounce Israeli military actions in Gaza, and show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Mass protests broke out in 48 cities across Morocco, as demonstrators staged 105 separate rallies to condemn Israeli military actions in Gaza and express support for Palestinian rights.

In response to calls from organizations including the Moroccan Commission for Advocating the Nation’s Causes, demonstrators convened in public squares, brandishing Palestinian flags and vocalizing objections to alleged military actions by Israel.

Protesters rallied under the banner “Stop the Genocide in Gaza,” voicing significant outrage and steadfast backing for the Palestinian cause.

The protests are taking place in the context of an ongoing Israeli military operation in Gaza, which began after October 7, 2023. The conflict has led to significant casualties, with reports indicating that over 44,300 people have lost their lives in Gaza, causing widespread devastation in the region.

The International Criminal Court has heightened its legal examination of Israel, as it issued arrest warrants last week for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The charges pertain to alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, signaling increased international legal attention on the country.

Israel is currently subject to a genocide case at the International Court of Justice, which arises from its actions in Gaza.
