Top Official Criticizes Trump’s ‘Illusion’ of Targeting Iran Nuclear Facilities

A political advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Ummah, has dismissed threats by Trump to target Iran's nuclear facilities, labeling them as a "fantasy" comparable to those entertained by previous US administrations.

Ali Shamkhani commented on Thursday in a post on the platform X, following a statement by Trump expressing his desire for a “very strong” nuclear agreement with Iran. Trump’s vision for the deal would allow for extensive control, including actions to take or destroy assets as deemed necessary.

In a statement, Shamkhani remarked that the notion of accessing Iran’s nuclear sites and “blowing up infrastructure” has been a persistent fantasy among previous US presidents.

The former secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that Iran prides itself on its independence, robust defense capabilities, resilient citizenry, and well-defined boundaries. The official emphasized that negotiations are aimed at fostering progress, advancing national interests, and upholding the country’s dignity, rather than succumbing to pressure or yielding unconditionally.

He alluded to the indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington concerning Iran’s nuclear program and the potential lifting of US sanctions.

The two parties have completed five rounds of discussions, facilitated by Oman.

In the interim, the United States has implemented sanctions against Iran, with American officials warning of potential military action and urging the halt of Tehran’s uranium enrichment efforts.

The Islamic Republic has reaffirmed its entitlement to the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy, emphasizing its status as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iran has reinforced its stance, asserting that its uranium enrichment activities are an aspect of national sovereignty that will remain uninterrupted.
