Bahrain’s main opposition party has dismissed involvement in the recent bombings in the Persian Gulf sheikhdom, saying it is committed to merely peaceful activities.

Al-Wefaq issued a statement on Tuesday, saying the revolutionary movement is opposed to any kind of violence.

Its statement came one day after two deadly bomb explosions rocked Bahrain.

The latest blast took place in the village of Karzakan, southwest of the capital Manama, leaving one person dead.

An earlier explosion killed a police officer Monday night in Damistan village, southwest of Manama.

Police have tightened security in predominantly Shia towns and Interior Ministry continues to blame the opposition as well as the Lebanon-based Hezbollah for what it claimed to be “terrorist attacks.”

Manama has previously accused Hezbollah of training militants and banned the opposition from having any contact with the Shia movement. The Lebanese movement has denied the accusation.

Since the start of a popular uprising in 2011, Bahrain has seen almost daily protests in which people has demanded political reforms and equal opportunities for followers of all religious sects.
