Kaag: Chemical weapon elimination in Syria running well

Coordinator of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) -UN joint Mission in Syria Sigrid Kaag affirmed that the process of eliminating the chemical weapons in Syria is achieving progress.

“The Special coordinator informed a UN Security Council meeting that the process of eliminating the chemical weapons in Syria is running well and according to the timetable,” ITAR TASS quoted a diplomatic source participating in a closed meeting in New York where Kaag submitted her report to the UN Security Council.

The source added that Kaag talked about the results of investigating two sites among the 23 sites to which the experts have visited, affirming that all equipment within the sites have been destroyed.

At the beginning of the meeting, Kaag submitted her report on Syria. In addition to the UN Security Council member states, Syria’s permanent envoy to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari attended the meeting.
