Assad: AL Represents Arab States, Not Arab People

Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that the “Arab League itself needs to be legitimate”, after the regional organization granted Damascus’ seat to the opposition.

In remarks to Turkish Ulusal TV station And Aydinlik Newspaper, President Assad said: “Arab League itself needs to be legitimate. It’s an organization that represents Arab states, not Arab people. Thus this league cannot offer legitimacy and can’t draw it back.”

The real legitimacy is neither from organizations, nor from foreign officials. It’s even not from other countries. Legitimacy is offered by your people,” Assad told the television and the newspaper according to the Syrian presidency page on Facebook.

“All these shows are worthless according to us,” the Syrian leader said, referring to what happen at the Arab summit last week, when Qatar granted Syria’s seat at the Arab league to the foreign-backed opposition.

The interview with Assad is to be published on Friday.
