Iran FM: Iran Welcomes Turkey-Syria Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib in Beirut on Friday underlined that the Islamic Republic welcomes the talks between Ankara and Damascus.

“We are happy with the dialogue taking place between Syria and Turkey and we welcome any dialogue and negotiation to solve the problems between these two countries,” Amir Abdollahian said during the joint press conference today.

“We believe that the Astana format should be strengthened to solve the existing problems by allowing Syria to participate,” he added. 

Referring to his visit to Beirut, he said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to support the Resistance in Lebanon and Palestine against the threats of the Zionist regime.”

Bou Habib, for his part, said that Beirut supports stability in Iran and rejects any interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

He added that Lebanon welcomes the expansion of bilateral ties with Iran.

In a relevant development earlier on Friday, Amir Abdollahian in a meeting Bou Habib in Beirut vowed to keep on supporting that country and its resistance movement.

Amir Abdollahian who arrived in the Lebanese capital late Thursday met and held talks with Bou Habib on bilateral, regional and international issues earlier today. 

Upon his arrival in Beirut, the Iranian foreign minister said that his visit to Lebanon is at the official invitation extended by his Lebanese counterpart and aimed at bilateral consultations on bilateral ties, regional and international developments, including the latest developments in occupied Palestine.

He also stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran will mightily continue its support for the Lebanese people, government, and Resistance forces.

Amir Abdollahian is also scheduled to meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berry.
