UK Labour risks boycott by Unite union

British Labour party faces a boycott from its main trades union supporter in the party’s annual conference next month over an ongoing dispute related to Falkirk MP in the British parliament.

According to Reuters, Labour party suspended Falkirk’s local party chairman Stevie Deans and Unite the union’s preferred candidate for the seat Karie Murphy after revelations that they had collaborated with the union to buy votes in the next general election.
The idea was apparently that Unite pays for up to 100 individuals’ membership fees in the Labour party in cooperation with Deans and then rallies them behind Murphy in the election to raise her chances of winning the central Scotland seat.
Unite has denied the charges saying the results of an internal investigation into the issue by Labour party have been published selectively to smear the unino.

The union, which is Britain’s largest, has also drawn up plans in its regional committee in Scotland that proposes Unite’s delegates to boycott the Labour conference in Brighton if Labour party insists on the suspensions.
The move will be hugely damaging to Labour leader Ed Miliband as Unite is the biggest mentor of his party.
Labour party has so far refused to comment on the threat by the union.
