British Prime Minister David Cameron has urged Scotland to avoid breaking up the nation by its decision to hold an independence referendum next year, saying that the country currently enjoys “the best of both worlds.”

In his latest attempt to convince Scots to renounce the referendum on independence, Cameron urged Scotland not to break up its 306-year union with England that is known as the United Kingdom.

“Put simply: Britain works. Britain works well. Why break it?” Cameron said in comments released ahead of his government analysis of Scotland’s role in the UK which is due to be published on Monday.

The Conservative Party is currently campaigning to avoid the independence referendum amid the Scottish National Party (SNP) efforts to secure Scotland its independence.

Earlier last week, the SNP said Scotland’s independence will be announced in March 2016 if Scots vote for leaving the UK in the October 2014 referendum.

A Scottish paper released by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon accordingly provided a timetable for Scotland’s independence with a detailed look at the needed steps for the country to break away from the UK.
