UK police clash with Occupy Democracy demonstrators

Clashes have broken out between police and Occupy Democracy demonstrators, demanding what they refer to as a genuine democracy in Britain.

British police swamped a peaceful demonstration staged by Occupy Democracy protesters calling for “genuine democracy free from corporate influence,” in London’s Parliament Square on Saturday.

The activists, staging their third occupation of the square, were forced to leave the protest, which was scheduled to last until Sunday, after police threatened them with criminal arrest.

Reports say police forces arrested one man.

The protesters claim the political system of the country favors banks, corporations, and the rich people.

They also vented anger over increased living costs and austerity measures which they say are aimed at the working class.

The protesters have vowed to return to the Parliament Square every month until the UK’s general elections are held in May 2015.

On November 21, UK police clashed with nearly 100 protesters as Occupy activists tried to set up camp outside the parliament.

In mid-October, there were a series of clashes with police on the Parliament Square as Occupy activists stood their ground for nine days.

Members of the anti-poverty Occupy movement in the UK say they will continue to use all available tools at their disposal to force the establishment to do something about what they call the stifling social and economic inequality in the country.
