Syrian Government Committed to Aiding Terrorism-Affected Families

A workshop titled “Aid Work and Mechanism to Bolster It” kicked off on Monday at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus.

The event is held in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Jassim Zakarya, stressed the keenness of the government on providing aid to the families affected by the acts of the armed terrorist groups.

In a speech during the opening ceremony, Minister Zakaraya added that the workshop tackles issues related to the efforts exerted in relief work and the difficulties hindering these efforts on the national level.

For his part, Minister of State for the affairs of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), Joseph Sweid, said that the Committee is the main reference in relief work, adding that the Committee includes all spectrum of the Syrian society.

He highlighted that the government plays a vital role in relief work, adding that the workshop aims at discussing means of bolstering the relief process to meet the needs of the families affected by the terrorist acts.

Participants in the sessions tackled the issues of relief work mechanisms, distributing aid, red Crescent efforts, establishing a hotline for relief coordination, preparing reports on temporarily housing centers, providing food and medical packages, the 61 projects of the response plans and the funds needed for them.
