UN strongly deplores Moscow bombing

The UN has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that killed dozens and injured more than 100 at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport.

At least 35 were killed and another 130 were injured after a massive explosion ripped through the international arrivals hall of Domodedovo Airport on Monday afternoon.

In a press statement released on Monday, the UN Security Council (UNSC) said that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes “one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.”

It described any acts of terrorism as “criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.”

The UNSC members also “reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.”

In an earlier statement, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the bombing as a “deplorable and unjustifiable act of violence against innocents.”

The UNSC and Ban also conveyed their deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the Russian government and people.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has pledged to launch an investigation into the deadly attack.

Medvedev said a commission of inquiry will carry out an investigation in order to find out more information about the blast.
