Egyptian policeman killed in Port Said

Egypt’s Army says a policeman has been killed and an army officer has been injured during clashes in the Egyptian northeastern city of Port Said.
The clashes erupted on Sunday when the Interior Ministry decided to move 39 prisoners who are waiting for a verdict over alleged involvement in a fatal football riot in 2012.
According to a statement by Egypt’s armed forces, the military officer suffered injuries after he was shot in the leg and the policeman was killed by a shot in the neck outside the headquarters of the Port Said governorate.
Over 250 people were also wounded in the clashes. Police fired tear gas to disperse angry protesters.
The verdict for the 39 defendants is set to be delivered on March 9. Earlier in January a court in Egypt sentenced 21 people to death for their role in the soccer disaster, leading to violent clashes that claimed the lives of at least 40 people.
