100s of Takfiri terrorists killed in Syrian army operations

Foreign-sponsored militant groups operating inside Syria have suffered major losses and lost hundreds of members as Syrian government troops continue to gain more ground in their fight against the extremists.

On Wednesday, Syrian army troops managed to establish control over a number of areas in the Jobar district, which lies two kilometers (1.2 miles) northeast of the capital, Damascus, destroying several command as well as communication centers and killing an unspecified number of terrorists, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported.

Separately, a host of Takfiri militants were killed as Syrian soldiers carried out mop-up operations in the vicinity of the Air Force Academy in the northern city of Aleppo, located 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of Damascus, Aleppo’s western neighborhood of al-Rashideen plus the villages of Kafr Hamrah and Qasr al-Ward.

Fierce clashes were also reported in northwest Syria’s al-Ghab plain, situated around 25 kilometers (15 miles) northwest of Hama, where at least 12 terrorists were killed.

Moreover, 17 members of the Takfiri Jaish al-Fatah militant group were killed as Syrian soldiers mounted an offensive in the town of Khan Shaykhun in the Maarrat al-Nu’man district in the country’s northwestern province of Idlib.

Militant commander killed

Syrian government forces also killed at least seven militants from the Ahrar al-Sham terrorist group as they staged an ambush on the Takfiris in the town of Houla in Syria’s central province of Homs. A militant commander, known by the nom de guerre Ammar al-Khodr, together with a notorious Chechen terrorist, alias Abu Anas, were later identified among the slain terrorists.

Also on Wednesday, nearly 100 Daesh terrorists were killed and injured as they stormed the Deir ez-Zor military airport, but had to retreat due to stiff resistance from Syrian army forces. A pickup truck that belonged to the terrorists and had a heavy machine gun mounted on, was also destroyed in the process.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations.
