Iraqi official confirms validity of permit for gas purchases from Iran
An advisor to the Prime Minister of Iraq announced that the United States has yet to revoke the sanctions waiver allowing Baghdad to purchase natural gas from Iran.

According to Reuters, Farhad Alaaldin, the advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, stated that the sanctions waiver granted by the United States to Iraq for importing Iranian gas is still active and has not yet expired.
A statement was made indicating that the United States has terminated Iraq’s waiver allowing it to import electricity from Iran.
An advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister revealed that the United States has urged Iraq to seek alternative sources for importing gas.
On March 27, 2024, a pivotal agreement was formalized in Baghdad, extending Iran’s gas export commitments to Iraq for an additional five-year period.
Iran has entered into two agreements with Iraq to facilitate the export of natural gas to Baghdad and Basra, marking a significant development in energy cooperation between the two nations.
