US Airstrikes Target Seized ‘israel’-Linked Vessel in Yemen: Report

The United States is said to have launched a fresh series of aerial attacks in Yemen, targeting a seized cargo ship with connections to Israel off the nation's coast.

According to Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network, on Saturday, U.S. warplanes executed three airstrikes targeting Galaxy Leader. This vessel had been seized by the Yemeni Armed Forces following the initiation of Tel Aviv’s contentious military campaign in the Gaza Strip.

In a move aligned with its campaign backing Palestinians in Gaza, Yemen has taken control of a Bahamas-flagged, Japanese-operated ship. This vessel is owned by a British company that is partially under the ownership of Israeli businessman Abraham (Rami) Ungar.

On November 19, 2023, a Yemeni operation utilizing a helicopter successfully executed a seizure in the Red Sea.

On January 22, 2025, authorities in Yemen announced the release of the 25-member crew of the Galaxy Leader in a gesture of support for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas resistance group based in Gaza.

The United States conducted military strikes in Yemen, resulting in injuries to eight civilians, according to local sources.

In a series of military operations on Saturday, the United States conducted airstrikes on multiple locations in Yemen, including the Bani Harith district situated north of the capital, Sana’a.

The Yemeni Ministry of Health has confirmed that an attack has resulted in injuries to eight civilians, among them two children.

Additional air strikes by the United States have targeted Kamaran Island, the Ras Isa oil port, and the al-Sabeen neighborhood in Sana’a. The attacks also extended to the Kitaf and al-Salem districts in Sa’ada province, the Bart al-Anan area in al-Jawf province, and the Medghal district in Marib province.

U.S. military actions were launched following Yemeni forces executing coordinated retaliatory strikes on two crucial sites located in Tel Aviv and the city of Ashkelon, south of the disputed territories, utilizing domestically manufactured combat drones.

A joint military operation was initiated against the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and its escort vessels positioned in the Red Sea. This move was made in response to ongoing US actions perceived as aggressive towards the Arab nation.

Washington commenced its lethal airstrike campaign on Yemen on March 15, following Sana’a’s decision to recommence operations targeting Israel. This move was in response to the regime’s continuation of its harsh military actions in Gaza.

Recent analyses reveal that the United States military’s close to $1 billion campaign against Yemeni armed forces has achieved limited success in diminishing their operational capabilities.

A recent report, quoting officials from the US military, has disclosed that Yemeni forces have successfully brought down seven US Reaper drones in a span of under six weeks, incurring losses that exceed $200 million.

Yemeni leader Mahdi al-Mashat has announced that his troops remain “unyielding in the face of missiles, bombs, or strategic bombers.” He also criticized Trump for having “wandered into a strategic quagmire.”
