US drone strike kills 7 in Pakistan

At least seven people have been killed in another US drone attack in Pakistan’s troubled North Waziristan region, security officials say.

The drone targeted suspected militants some 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Security officials say the unmanned plane fired three missiles in the area, killing seven and injuring another two.

The number of US airstrikes in the volatile border region in Pakistan has drastically increased in recent weeks amid the flood tragedy that has affected most of the south Asian country.

The attacks have claimed the lives of hundreds of people in Pakistan.

Washington claims that the air raids target militants but most of its victims have turned out to be civilians.

Islamabad has condemned the strikes as violation of its sovereignty.
