Despite its self-righteous claims, the US has long been in breach of the international norms through its deadly interventionist policies across the world, an analyst writes on Press TV website.

In a Monday article published on Press TV website, Abdullah Weiler slammed President Barack Obama’s recent and previous claims about American exceptionalism in upholding the international norms.

“The US not only has the ability to flout international norms, but has done so repeatedly by unilateral interventions in countries around the world from Albania to Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo),” he said.
On May 28, Obama told graduating cadets at the US Military Academy at West Point that the US has been exceptional in its willingness to affirm the international norms through its actions.

Obama reiterated that the US must always lead on the world stage, stressing that the military will always be the backbone of that leadership.

Weiler noted that the US track record of crimes against humanity started with the colonial genocide perpetrated against the American Native People, which reduced a civilization of millions to less than 250,000 by 1892.

He went on to enumerate some of the other instances of US atrocities against humanity, including the massacre of 400,000 civilians in its Philippine conquest, 305,000 Germans and 330,000 Japanese during World War II, over a million in the Vietnam War, nearly 30,000 Nicaraguans by the US-backed Contra death squads and from 500,000 to over 1.2 million Iraqis between March 2003 to 2011.

“From the president on down to the poorest citizen,” Weiler said, “Americans still cling tenaciously to this malevolent myth (US exceptionalism), refusing to see the truth about their rogue republic.”
