Leader of Islamic Ummah pardons prisoners ahead of Eid al-Fitr

pirhayati20130808112213630The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oprpessed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei has pardoned and commuted the sentences of a number of prisoners on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

The decision, announced on Thursday, was in response to a request by Iran Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani

Larijani had asked for the pardoning or commutation of the sentences of the prisoners, who had been convicted by general, revolutionary or military courts, the State Punishment Organization, and Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oprpessed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei granted the request based on the Item 11 of Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution.

The Supreme Leader’s decision came ahead of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured.

On Eid al-Fitr, Muslims are encouraged to be especially generous and forgiving.

In Iran, the Eid will be marked on Friday, with people expected to turn out en masse across the nation for communal prayers shortly after sunrise. The Eid al-Fitr prayers in Tehran will be led by The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oprpessed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei, followed by two sermons.
