US, Israel fueling unrest in Iraq: Iranian MP

344935_Iran-Iraq-FallujahAn Iranian lawmaker has warned the United States and its allies against the spread of terrorism, blaming Tel Aviv and Washington for the unrest in Iraq.

“The Zionist regime [of Israel] and the US are the pivot around which all conflicts in Iraq revolve,” said Baqer Hosseini who sits on the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Majlis.

He also linked the Iraq unrest to the crisis in Syria.

“Fomenting unrest in Iraq is in line with the Syria unrest,” said the MP.

“The same terrorists who conduct terrorist operations in Syria are provoking unrest in Iraq. They are rooted in Europe and the US,” the legislator underlined.

“The US and all supporters of terrorists should know that [the repercussions of] this unrest, insecurity and the heavy onslaught on innocent people will definitely not be confined to the region, and these terrorists will one day return to Europe and West,” he added.

He said the US and its allies should expect terrorist acts in their own countries because terrorist groups, which are currently in the Middle East, have an “extremist anti-human mind” and it makes no difference to them where they are carrying out terrorist operations.

Certain Muslim countries back terrorists, said the MP, urging them to drop support for terrorist groups “because they will soon find themselves drawn into such issues and the very same terrorist groups will carry out acts of terror in those countries.”

The Iraqi cities of Fallujah and Ramadi in Anbar Province have been the scene of deadly clashes between the Iraqi army and al-Qaeda-affiliated militants over the past days.

Iraqi military officials said dozens of militants loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have so far been killed in Anbar.

The violence broke out on December 30, 2013, when the army removed an anti-government protest camp in Ramadi. Authorities say the camp was used as “headquarters for the leadership of al-Qaeda.”

The violence later spread to nearby Fallujah. The security forces supported by Sunni tribesmen have been battling the militants to push them out of Ramadi and Fallujah.

Reports indicate that more than 250 people have been killed so far, including scores of militants.
