Spokesman Mehmanparast: Over 80 foreign ministers, high-ranking officials to attend NAM Summit

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Monday that that foreign ministers or deputy foreign ministers from more than 80 countries will take part in NAM foreign ministerial meeting slated for August 28-29.
Talking to reporters, Mehmanparast added that senior experts of NAM member states discussed regional and international issues under political and economic committees.

On Sunday, a meeting of experts from NAM countries began a two-day meeting in Tehran to prepare agenda for foreign ministerial meeting.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the foreign ministers will draw up agenda for Summit of Leaders.

NAM was founded in Belgrade in 1961 by then Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito, Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah, and Indonesian president Sukarno, all legends of the national liberation movement, with solid anti-imperial credentials, who advocated a middle course for the developing world between the western and eastern blocs in the Cold War.
