Iran has denounced the Israeli regime’s latest attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem), urging world countries and global organizations to immediately respond to the raids.

“All world countries, particularly Muslim states, and international bodies, especially the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations, are expected to show immediate reaction to this illegal move by the occupying Zionist regime,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, said on Tuesday.

She emphasized that the move by the “illegal and child-murdering Zionist regime” to impose restrictions on entry into the al-Aqsa Mosque violates international law.

Afkham expressed Iran’s readiness to host an emergency meeting of the OIC in order to discuss the necessary measures to stop the Israeli regime’s attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque for a third straight day and blocked all roads leading to the holy site.

At least 20 Palestinians were injured and several others were arrested after Israeli soldiers attacked Palestinian worshipers inside the mosque, firing stun grenades and tear gas at them, according to a Palestinian eyewitness.

The recent clashes broke out hours before Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year. The Israeli regime usually imposes restrictions on Muslim worshipers’ access to the al-Aqsa Mosque on the first days of Rosh Hashanah.

Palestinians say the Israeli regime is planning to change the status quo of al-Quds and Judaize the city and the al-Aqsa Mosque.

The al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, along with its surrounding compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds is a flashpoint. The site is revered by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and by Jews as the Temple Mount.

The Tel Aviv regime has tried to change the demographic makeup of al-Quds over the past decades by constructing illegal settlements, destroying historical sites and expelling the local Palestinian population.
