US, Israel will be real losers of Syria war: Iran MP

Iran MP

A senior Iranian lawmaker says the war on Syria is a threat to regional peace and stability, stressing that the US and the Israeli regime will be the real losers of the conflict.

“The Zionist regime [of Israel] and the US will be the real losers of the proxy war on the Syrian nation,” head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Monday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the capital city of Damascus.

Boroujerdi praised the resistance of the Syrian people and government and said US attempts to create a new front against Syria in Jordan indicates the failure of the plots hatched by Washington and its regional allies against Damascus over the past two years.

During the meeting, Assad praised Iran’s economic aid to his country and said the Syrian government is decisive in foiling enemy plots and will firmly thwart them all.

He thanked Iran for supporting the anti-Israel resistance under the present circumstances, describing the Iranian stance significant in the restoration of regional peace and stability.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of Syrian troops and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that large numbers of the militants are foreign nationals.

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said on April 17 that Washington is sending 200 troops to Jordan to help contain the violence in Syria, fueling speculations that the US is setting the stage for an intervention in the Arab country.
