US-led forces in Afghanistan have launched another airstrike in the eastern province of Ghazni, killing at least two people.

Local Afghan authorities said on Sunday that the two killed in the air raid were suspected bombers who were apparently on their way to the provincial capital city of Ghazni to set off their explosives.

The officials further claimed that the two men were planning to target a ceremony with local and foreign guests, without elaborating on the nature of the event.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of fighting terrorism and bringing security to the country.

However, insecurity and terror activities continue across Afghanistan with many civilians falling victim to frequent attacks by US-led forces as well as militant groups.

Meanwhile, the Taliban have recently stepped up their annual offensive against US-led and Afghan forces, vowing a new wave of attacks across the country.

The militant group has said it would use every possible tactic to inflict casualties on Afghan and US-led forces. They have specifically pointed to insider attacks and bombings.

The Taliban announcement has prompted Afghan authorities to beef up security in major cities across the country, including the capital city of Kabul.
